Innovatory research for sea
economy
Sea Institute in Gdansk for over 55 years has been
carrying out innovatory research for sea economy. We are a research and
development unit at present subjected to the Ministry of Sea Economy and, in
terms of our competences, we strictly co-operate with the institutions and
enterprises connected with sea economy.
We carry out scientific and research as well as
introductory works, we elaborate feasibility studies and expertises as well as
we give professional advice in terms of: sea hydro technique, geo-technique,
operational oceanography, environment protection (chemical and biological
research), transport, logistics, area development of seaside region, harbours
modernization and exploitation, inland navigation, tourism, anti-flood safety,
sea electronics, as well as creation of data base and monitoring of continuous
phenomena. We have experienced, highly qualified scientific and research as
well as technical cadre, modern, well equipped laboratories (including the Accredited
Environment Protection Research Laboratory - the Certificate of Polish
Accreditation Centre/ meeting the requirements of PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025 2001standard),
as well as modern technologies, equipment and experimental and measuring
apparatus. Our know-how as well as intellectual and technical potential allows performing
the most demanding and complex orders in terms of sea economy on the highest
world level, what is confirmed by contracts realized for big national and
foreign contractors.
We possess a modern scientific and research ship r/v IMOR -
of catamaran type, which functions as sailing specialist sea laboratory,
intended for performance of complex research services in shallow water seaside
zone basing on the most modern research technologies. The functioning of the
ship as the sailing sea laboratory is possible thanks to the unit equipment in
very precise, highly advanced technologically apparatus and research and
measuring devices. By means of using the ship-laboratory IMOR we offer to
Polish and foreign enterprises complex and specialist research and experimental
services:
- Pre-investment research of the sea bottom for the needs
of: wind power station farms construction, laying undersea cables and
pipelines, sanitary collectors as well as artificial reefs;
- Research concerning stock-taking of sea mineral deposit,
measurements of contamination levels as well as the capacity of output from
deepening works;
- Service in terms of information necessary for designing,
modernization and construction of hydro-technical sea objects: collectors,
harbour seaside sailing landing;
- Research connected with the improvement of navigation
safety as well as action against extraordinary threats on the sea (the
prognosis of oil and chemical spilling spreading);
- Research in terms of ecological causes of economy
influence on environment and sea biocoenosis;
- Service in terms of sea area development plan elaboration
as well as creation of ZZOP strategies.
IMOR ship is a unique unit and it fills the gap among the
other Polish research ships not adjusted to carry out research within the
direct seashore nearness as well as on shallow waters. The complexity of
services of the sailing sea laboratory allows for the Sea Institute in Gdansk to join in the realization of technologically advanced research and introductory
projects, what results in the strengthening of the co-operation between the
research and development zone as well as economy.
The Sea Institute in Gdansk leads the wide range scientific
and technical co-operation with national and foreign institutions. We are a
coordinator or a partner in multiple projects co-financed by the European Union
in terms of such programs as: EU Frameworks, Interreg IIIA, IIIB, IIIC, Eureka, Leonardo da VINCI, Structural Founds, as well as EOG Financial Mechanisms.
