Apia XXI Group consolidates its position in East and Central Europe

What services does the group offer?

Manuel Pérez Sierra, Planning Director of APIA XXI GROUP. - APIA XXI Group develops their work in areas of the consultancy and the construction. In the area of the consultancy, APIA XXI, the base of the group, is born in 1987 as civil work specializing in infrastructures, hydraulic works, urbanism and environment, building and industry and management and new technologies. Its fast growth and consequent international expansion led us to create a firm in Latin America with a permanent branch in Santiago de Chile and the same thing happened last year in Poland we were constituting a new company in Warsaw, APIA XXI IAK from where we manage our works in the countries of the East of Europe. In the area of the construction we develop our work with two companies: ASETYM and CORELIA.

What are the aims and the positioning of the Group in the different markets?

Manuel Pérez Sierra. Nowadays, APIA XXI Group works in a regular way at Latin America, Africa and East Europe. In East and Central Europe we are executing the first works in Croatia and Poland across APIA IAK. Throughout this year 2007 we try to expand the activity of the company to Romania, Bulgaria and to the Balkan zone.

During last 30 years Spain developed infrastructure. Poland is at the beginning of that way. What is your advice for us?

Alejandro Varón, Head of the Eastern and central European Division of APIA IAK - Poland is facing a big challenge at this moment. You have to develop and renovate a huge infrastructure network managing large financing resources. We went through this experience in Spain some years ago and we know that it is not an easy task. You have to get ready for this as soon as possible in order to use the maximum amount of European Funds, therefore having sufficient and adequate trained staff in the national and regional administration is crucial, as well as simplifying all procedures a project has to go keeping in mind the essential importance of identifying and solving environmental issues early during project preparation. Particularly tender procedures should be carefully treated, they should not take too much time, therefore interrupting a project's development, and at the same time my advice is that they should not only look for the cheapest offer but also take into account the quality of the services a company is offering.

APIA XXI GROUP is involved in several Warsaw road projects. What kind of works?

Alejandro Varón. - The first design work APIA XXI IAK is conducting in Warszawa, a feasibility study to define architectural, environmental and acoustic solutions for Trasa Łazienkowska including also a technical diagnosis of its bridge and viaducts. It is being developed for the City of Warsaw under direct supervision of our client, the City Road Authority, and financed by means of Spanish donor funds. Recently we were awarded the contract for drafting environmental reports of 4 sections of the A1 and A2 motorways in the wojwodship of Łódz for the GDDKiA, summing up 280 km. The scope of the project is to present clearly the impact that each proposed alternative would cause to the environment, allowing the client to evaluate, together with technical and economical factors, and make the optimum choice between them.
